About

The Beast Mode 3D Archery Tour at Tyrol Basin(formerly known as King of the Hill 3D) is the ultimate Midwest archery challenge, designed to push archers to their limits and prepare bowhunters for the rigors of their hunts. Set against the stunning backdrop of Tyrol Basin Ski Resort, this event features 40+ targets across three distinct courses, each offering realistic shot scenarios and rugged terrain.  Participants can shoot multiple courses per day, experiencing the dramatic topography of Wisconsin’s Driftless Region. Get ready for an unforgettable 3D archery experience!

Our presenting sponsor is the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF).

We can't think of a better organization to have as our presenting sponsor as they are dedicated to conserving America's big game across the United State's.

What To Expect

When registering, choose your initial course and corresponding start time. Once all designated start times have passed, participants are free to explore additional courses, if desired. To ensure smooth operations, please be considerate of time spent on each target. Select either the long shot option (cone) or the closer shot option (flag) for a target, but not both simultaneously. If a flag is stuck in the cone, it indicates a single distance for that particular target.  We have implemented a specific order for shooting the courses, reducing congestion. The order will follow as Western Range, Front Range, and Savanna Range. For instance, if your starting course is the Front Range, the subsequent course available after the start times have passed will be the Savanna Range. Similarly, if you begin with the Savanna Range, your second course of the day will be the Western Range.

Prepare yourself for an exceptional archery experience that mirrors the challenges of western hunts at our Midwest's 3D shoot. With meticulously designed courses, challenging targets, and a fun-filled atmosphere, we guarantee a memorable event that will enhance your bowhunting skills for the upcoming season.

Registration gives you unlimited access to the practice range and courses during the allotted time as well as a participant t-shirt(sign up by July 7) and door prizes.

Courses

Courses

Each shooting position will have a cone.  If there is not a closer shooting position marked, the orange flag will be stuck in the top of the cone.  If the flag is not in the cone then it is somewhere between the cone and target.  As this is a fun event you may scoot up to any distance between the cone and target to shoot.  Expect each course to take 90+minutes depending on the number of shooters in your group and the amount of lost arrows you have to look for!

FRONT RANGE

Expect to do some climbing but nothing that is extreme.  This course will have a few long range shots on the slopes as well as some technical scenarios in the woods.  Our goal is to have 15 targets on this course with the longest around 80 yards while most will be in the 30-50 yard range from the furthest shooting cone.

WESTERN RANGE

This course will cover the most aggressive terrain on the the property with the longest shot around 100 yards with most being in the 60-80 yard range.  Expect steep terrain and a lot of elevation gain and loss which means steep shot angles!  This course is no joke!  Be mentally and physically prepared.  Expect to have 15 targets on the Western Range.

VORTEX OPTICS SAVANNA RANGE

The Savanna Range is loved by those that enjoy dropping carbon bombs from a long ways off which is why Vortex Optics has chosen to be the title sponsor for this course.  You are gonna need some good optics to find and range those targets!  Historically the longest shot has always been on this course and has been known to reach out to 130+ yards.  Most targets will be in the 60-90 yard range.  Expect to be in open fields for the majority of this course so plan for the forecasted elements.  While the Savanna Range has the least topography do expect it to be a longer walk with 15 targets.

PRACTICE RANGE

You will have unlimited access to the range on each day you are registered to shoot.  Targets will be placed so you have ample opportunity to practice those long range shots before heading out on the course.

Novelty Shot

The crowd favorite Clay Pigeon Long Shot will be located on the practice range along with other fun games with your bow and arrow.

Course Etiquette and SAFETY

  • Stay on Course: Follow all course markings and do not shortcut, backtrack, or skip ahead.

  • Shoot from the Cone or you may move closer

  • Keep the Angle: Do not change the shot angle (stay within 2 yards of either side of the cone or flag).

  • Keep It Moving: If your group is moving slowly, allow faster groups to shoot through.

  • Call “All Clear” after exiting the target zone, so the group behind knows it’s safe to shoot.

  • Stay Visible: If searching for a lost arrow, make sure someone in your group is visible to the group behind you. If shooting solo put your bow or something over the target.

  • Leave No Trace: Pack out everything you pack in.

  • NO Broadheads: For safety and target preservation, broadheads are not allowed.

  • ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL or drugs on the courses.

  • Take Care of yourself!  Wear appropriate clothing and footwear and be prepared for unexpected weather.  Stay hydrated and fueled!

Couse Safety

Common Questions

What time can I start shooting the second course?  To ensure everyone has a good experience with no long waits you will not be able to start a second course until all the shoot times have passed.

When should I show up? You can show up anytime the event is open and shoot the warm up range or the novelty shots.  Remember to get there early enough to check in before your Unleash Time.

I don't have a sight tape that goes out past 80 yards will there be long shots?  YES!  There may be shots at 100+ yards.  As this is a fun shoot you can shoot from a closer distance that you are comfortable with.  We will have a closer shooting stake at targets that can accommodate it.  Bring a lot of arrows!!

Once I'm on the course how do I get back to my vehicle/base camp?  There is no short cutting or walking the course backwards as you will be at risk of getting SHOT!  You must walk the course from start to finish once you start.

Will there be water on the course?  Yes, but you should still plan to bring your own water and snacks while out on the course.

Can I use broadheads?  ABSOLUTELY NO BROADHEADS!

Can I bring my dog on the course?  No pets are allowed on the course.  Dogs must be leashed at all times in the parking and common areas.

Are boots recommended?  Yes!  you will be traversing a lot of steep terrain.  You may want to wear long pants if you plan to look for lost arrows as you will encounter poison ivy and other poisonous plants

DISCLAIMER: This isn't your standard 3D shoot you might encounter at your local club! Anticipate the possibility of missing a target and losing or breaking an arrow or two. Prepare for extensive hiking and potential bushwhacking to retrieve lost arrows. If you take yourself too seriously, this event might not be the right fit for you.
